Bicycles Against Poverty works in East Africa, specifically focusing Gulu, in northern Uganda.
In the upcoming years we plan to expand past Ugandan boundaries and extend our reach to other areas in East Africa.
Northern Uganda experienced a civil war for over 20 years, from the mid 1980s until 2007. The fighting took place in the Gulu region, where BAP operates. All of BAP’s participants lived in internally displaced persons (IDP) camps for over 10 years, until 2009. The war disrupted commerce as well as community life, leaving the area handicapped to this day.
